Breakthroughs is a private practice that provides mental health and substance abuse services to the community of Jacksonville, FL. In addition to our long established team of 10 mental health and addictions professionals, in the spring of 2004 we enhanced our services with a specialized intensive outpatient program for adults with chemical dependency.

Exciting news!!: Breakthroughs Counseling & Recovery, Inc. has a new Adult Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program with an emphasis on developing cognitive skills to improve life-coping. The program meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9am to 12pm. Breakthroughs continues to provide care to clients with varying levels of need. Our day and evening Intensive programs offer flexibility to accommodate scheduling concerns. The programs, as well as our aftercare / maintenance component are licensed in the State of Florida by the Department of Children and Family Services. We still have our team of outstanding licensed clinicians who have specialties in all areas of mental health and addiction issues.
Family therapy and individual counseling is provided in addition to or as an alternative to the I.O.P. when indicated.
Breakthroughs I.O.P. is now covered by: Cigna, Value Options, United Behavioral Health, Mental Health Net (Blue Cross HMO), Aetna, Com Psych and Psych Care Insurance Companies. Many other contracts are pending.

It has been our experience that there has been a great increase in the number of people seeking treatment for opioid dependency. This is due, in part, to a heightened media awareness of the abuse of narcotic painkillers such as Oxycontin and Loritab. This is also due to the advances in the treatment of opioid dependence.
Breakthroughs: Counseling and Recovery, Inc. has been working closely with physicians who are prescribing Suboxone and Subutex for detoxification. We have been seeing successful outcomes with patients who combine buprenorphine detox with intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment. These medications can be taken long term or used as a bridge to abstinence. Our clients are in treatment for 3 1/2 hours per day for the first month of treatment and then enter a 6 month maintenance program 1-2 times per week. We provide urine drug screens when indicated as necessary.
We have contracts with many insurance companies including Cigna, Value Options, Mental Health Net and others.
Please have your patient call our office with any questions. We can provide an evaluation quickly, usually on the same day. If we feel that a medical detoxification is necessary, we will get the patient in shortly with a physician who is certified to prescribe buprenorphine.
Agonist therapy has been shown to be effective in opioid dependence treatment. Patients receiving drug therapy have been shown to remain in chronic drug treatment programs at a rate of 2.5 times greater than those in self help residential programs, and 5 times that of patients in drug-free outpatient programs.
